Sometimes after cleaning your house, the cleaning tools themselves can become the culprits of dirt and grime. Whether its sponges or a dishwasher, your cleaning tools should always be immaculately clean. In order to make sure your house and tools are spotless, we’ve compiled a list of the top tips for keeping your cleaning tools pristine.
Sponge
Cleaning the dishes can cause your sponges to turn all sorts of colors. Instead of throwing each sponge in the trash, clean it instead. Simply put your sponge in a mixture of a gallon of water and ¾ cup of bleach for around five minutes. Clean your sponge at least once a week and make sure to switch it out every three weeks to avoid any unwanted germs.
Washcloths
Washcloths can become very dirty very fast. If you want to get rid of the dirt, wash your washcloths in hot water with detergent. If the smell is the problem with your washcloths, wash them in hot water first with a cup of ammonia or white distilled vinegar and then again with detergent.
Scrub Brushes
Scrub brushes clean amazingly well, but what about when they get dirty themselves? All you need to do is put the scrub brushes in some white vinegar for eight to twelve hours and then squeeze out the excess liquid.
Dishwasher
Dishwashers can be life-savers when it comes to dirty dishes. However, dishwashers need a good cleaning periodically too in order to keep working properly. First, take the bottom rack out and check the drain for any food, glass, residue, or anything that could interfere with the drain. Then, fill a dishwasher-safe cup with a cup of white vinegar and place it on the top rack face up. Start a cycle with hot water and watch all the dishwasher dirt wash away. In order to truly make your dishwasher smell and look immaculate, scatter a cup of baking soda around the bottom of the dishwasher and run a short cycle with hot water.
